September 24, 2019
Update: 4:45pm
After several hours of negotiation with the suspect inside an apartment at 1616 McCaskill Avenue, TPD's Tactical Apprehension and Control (TAC) Team was able to safely resolve the incident with an arrest. Kymasculine S. Dawkins was arrested on outstanding warrants for Burglary with Person Assaulted and Resisting an Officer from prior incidents occurring in May 2019. Additional charges from the incident today include Aggravated Assault with a Firearm, False Imprisonment, Resisting an Officer and Grand Theft of a Firearm.
The incident began at 10:19 a.m. as a domestic disturbance involving an argument between Dawkins and family members. Dawkins barricaded himself inside an apartment when TPD arrived. Based on information that Dawkins was armed, the TAC Team responded to assist officers with the safe evacuation of nearby residences, to provide additional resources to apprehend Dawkins and to secure the scene. During the arrest, officers recovered a loaded 9mm handgun which had been previously reported stolen. Dawkins was alone in the apartment during the incident and thankfully there were no serious injuries to anyone involved. Dawkins was transported to the Leon County Detention Facility for processing.
