Weems Road Pedestrian and Street Safety (PASS) Project
The Weems Road Pedestrian and Street Safety (PASS) project will enhance pedestrian and bicycle mobility in the area, as well as improve the drainage system to reduce roadway flooding experienced along the corridor in the past. Phase 1 of the Weems PASS project included enhancements along Weems Road between Easterwood Drive and the railroad tracks and a roundabout at the Easterwood Drive and Weems Road intersection, which was completed in 2012. Phase 2 of this infrastructure project includes building a sidewalk on the west side of the road and a 12 foot wide multi-use trail on the east side of the road from the railroad tracks to Mahan Drive. Additionally, the project includes water and sewer enhancements, the construction of a new bridge structure at the outfall of the existing stormwater facility and a roundabout at the intersection of Weems Road and Eliza Road.
Background
Keeping area residents and businesses informed on this project is a top priority. A public meeting was held in June of 2017 to share initial design plans with residents and collect their feedback. Since that time, City staff has also attended multiple meetings with the Weems Planation Homeowners Association. Prior to and throughout construction, additional outreach is planned to ensure that residents and businesses stay up to date on this project, which represents a significant investment in quality infrastructure for our community.

Detour & Construction Information (Updated 1/23/20)
- Completed construction of stormwater enhancements between Tavistock Drive and Mahan Drive, which includes over 1,400 linear feet of new pipe.
- Constructed the eastern half of the roadway between Tavistock Drive and Mahan Drive.
- Installed over half of the multi-use trail.
- Continued construction of the foundation for the new bridge.
- Upgraded sewer lines throughout the corridor.
Beginning Monday, January 27, the traffic pattern will change along Weems Road to allow for construction within the center of the roadway. Traffic will be “split” to either side of the roadway and all businesses will maintain access. During this time, left turns will be limited in certain areas, so vehicles may need to use the roundabout to do a U-turn as a temporary alternative during construction. As always, thank you for your patience as we improve the utility and transportation infrastructure along Weems Road.
Detour & Construction Information (Updated 10/23/19)
Crews are making great progress on the Weems Road Pedestrian and Street Safety (PASS) project. Starting at 9 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 28, the roundabout at the Eliza Road intersection will be open to traffic. Crews will continue working on landscaping and other finishing touches in and around the roundabout, so please use caution when traveling in the area. South of the roundabout, Weems Road will remain closed to through traffic.
Starting on Monday, motorists can expect a lane shift north of the roundabout (Mahan side), which will last 3-4 months. A temporary lane is being constructed to allow two-way traffic to be maintained as crews complete roadway reconstruction and the installation of new underground utilities in the area. During this phase of construction, residents accessing the Weems Plantation neighborhood will need to use Dartmouth Drive, as construction will prevent access from Tavistock Drive.

Work also continues south of the roundabout near the railroad tracks. Crews are removing the existing stormwater outfall structure in preparation for installation of a new bridge to alleviate flooding in the area. Bridge work began in December.
We will continue to provide updates as this project moves forward and appreciate the patience of area residents and businesses as we work to improve the Weems Road corridor.
This project is anticipated to be complete by late 2020.

Weems Road Extension Project
Construction update
In preparation for the new bridge connection, Automotive Way will be temporarily closed from January 6 to February 7. Traffic coming to the Mahan Village Shopping Center will need use the Mahan Drive entrance.
As part of the City of Tallahassee's commitment to investing in its infrastructure, on Monday, April 29, crews began construction of a new two-lane road that will extend Weems Road from Mahan Drive to Capital Circle via a connection at Automotive Way. Once completed, this new route will help alleviate traffic in the area near the Capital Circle and Mahan Drive intersection, which sees an average of 80,000 cars per day.
Work includes building a new stormwater facility, the construction of approximately 350 feet of bridge and 1,000 feet of roadway, landscaping and modifying two existing intersections. Additionally, a 10-foot-wide trail will be constructed that will tie into the sidewalk along Automotive Way and connect to the Goose Pond Trail as part of the Greenway Master Plan. The project is anticipated to be complete by summer 2020.
During construction, impacts to traffic are anticipated to be minimal. Temporary lane and road closures will be necessary once crews begin working on the modifications of the intersections located at either end of the project. Signage and notification of these temporary traffic modifications will be shared with the public in advance.
Additionally, every effort is being made to ensure that access to businesses located near the work zone is maintained at all times; this includes building a temporary driveway for the businesses located on Weems Road just north of Mahan Drive (Market Liquors and Country Dollar).
