COVID19 Update
A Message from the City of Tallahassee
March 19, 2020
The City of Tallahassee has been closely monitoring and taking proactive measures due to the evolving public health situation caused by COVID-19. With confirmed cases in our county, it is more important than ever that our organization and all residents act to protect one another. It is anticipated that more positive cases will be confirmed in our city and region, but together, we can help slow the spread of this virus.
For several weeks, the City has been operating under enhanced cleaning protocols at all its facilities, including the Tallahassee International Airport and on City buses. Where possible, we have instituted remote work for employees and strengthened our online engagement portals. While many in-person functions are suspended, you can still connect with City resources via telephone, the DigiTally mobile app and online at Talgov.com.
While the City continues to provide essential services 24/7, we understand the hardships that many residents are facing due to their changing employment statuses. For this reason, the City announced on March 12 that over the next 60 days, residents and businesses would not be disconnected from utility services for non-payment.
For local small businesses and small business employees that have been impacted, there are unemployment benefits available through the Department of Economic Opportunity Reemployment Assistance Program (FloridaJobs.org) and the Florida Small Business Bridge Loans program (FloridaDisasterLoan.org).
To help support local restaurants, the Tallahassee-Leon County Office of Economic Vitality has created the #OpenForTakeout map, available at OEVforBusiness.com, which highlights open businesses with takeout and delivery options.
In support of Tallahassee Memorial HealthCare and the local healthcare community, City employees from multiple departments dedicated 500 work hours to quickly stand up a specimen collection site for patients with a doctor’s referral to be tested for COVID-19, and members of the Tallahassee Fire Department and Tallahassee Police Department continue to be onsite to support daily operations. The site is operable from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday.
City leadership is ensuring the continuity of our operations, while balancing the health of employees and residents. A list of operational changes can be found at Talgov.com.
Residents are encouraged to stay informed with accurate information from the State of Florida Department of Health at FloridaHealth.gov and from the City of Tallahassee at Talgov.com. You can also stay informed by following @CityofTLH on social media.
