Foul Play not Suspected in TMH Investigation
On August 8, 2019 TPD responded to the Tallahassee Memorial Hospital reference a subject who jumped from the fifth floor of the hospital landing onto a second story rooftop. TPD’s Violent Crimes Unit Investigators discovered that the patient retrieved a drawer from a nearby dresser to break the hospital room window. While attempting to jump out of the window, hospital staff immediately tried to intervene and stop the patient from jumping. The patient defeated their efforts and would eventually fall, suffering life threatening injuries. TMH medical staff provided immediate care to the patient, who is now in stable condition.

At approximately 8 a.m. this morning, the Tallahassee Police Department responded to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital regarding an individual who jumped from the fifth floor of the hospital landing on a second story rooftop. Arriving officers and emergency medical personnel discovered the individual on the rooftop suffering from life threatening injuries. First responders quickly removed the person from the roof and took them into the hospital’s emergency room for immediate evaluation and treatment.
Investigators with TPD’s Violent Crimes Unit and Forensics Unit are on scene. At this time they are interviewing all known witnesses and processing the scene.
